Applying for a Marketplace plan is straightforward once you know the steps and have your info ready. Here’s how it goes — and where a licensed advisor saves you time and money at no cost.

The Steps

First, gather your household size and estimated annual income, plus everyone who needs coverage. Next, apply on your state’s Marketplace (or HealthCare.gov) to see your subsidy and the plans in your ZIP. Then compare total yearly cost — premium plus likely out-of-pocket — and confirm your doctors are in-network and your drugs are covered. Finally, enroll and pay your first premium to activate coverage.

Do It with an Expert

A licensed advisor can do all of this with you for free — applying your subsidy correctly, comparing every plan, and handling the paperwork. Your premium is the same as going it alone, so there’s no reason not to have help.
