The Health Insurance Marketplace is where individuals and families shop for ACA-compliant health plans and apply for income-based savings. Every plan covers the same essential benefits and can’t turn you down for health history — you choose the metal tier and network that fit.

One Set of Rules, Many Plans

Every Marketplace plan must cover the ten essential health benefits, cap your yearly out-of-pocket costs, and accept you regardless of health. What differs is the metal tier (how you and the plan split costs), the carrier, the network of doctors, and the drug list. That standardization makes plans genuinely comparable.

Federal vs. State Marketplaces

Most states use the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov, while 21 states and D.C. run their own state-based marketplace with its own website. Either way, the plans and consumer protections are the same, and a licensed advisor can compare and enroll you at no cost.
