Many people qualify for simplified-issue or guaranteed-issue life insurance that skips the medical exam. You answer health questions (or none at all) and can often be approved in days instead of weeks — a great option if you want coverage fast or have a needle aversion.

Simplified Issue vs. Guaranteed Issue

Simplified-issue policies ask a handful of health questions and can offer solid coverage amounts with fast approval. Guaranteed-issue policies ask no health questions and can’t decline you, but they offer smaller benefits, cost more per dollar of coverage, and often include a graded benefit for the first two years.

No-exam coverage is convenient, but a traditional fully-underwritten policy can be cheaper if you’re healthy and willing to take the exam. We’ll show you both.

Best For

  • People who want coverage quickly
  • Those who’d rather skip the medical exam
  • Applicants with some health conditions (guaranteed issue)

Frequently Asked

Is no-exam life insurance more expensive?

Often a little, because the insurer has less health information and prices in more risk. If you’re in good health, a fully-underwritten policy with an exam may cost less — but no-exam wins on speed and convenience.
